The Roaring 20s

40×60 in. mixed media, 2020

I made this painting to show how my neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York is reacting to Covid-19. I started it a couple months ago when my school evacuated and we had to go back to our homes. This painting was created as a timestamp to capture all the horrible things happening in 2020 like the Corona, deaths of black idols, closed businesses, racism, etc. It's named "The Roaring 20s" to play on the fact that 2020 is a century away from the 1920s, a time where America was prospering with its economic boom, height of jazz music, and the Harlem Renaissance. Now our 20s are defined with disease, deaths, riots, and bankruptcy.
